What makes futsal such a great sport?
Philippe Coutinho: Futsal is a very interesting sport, mainly because matches are often not decided until the end and that means players have to be on guard until the last second.
How much futsal did you play when you were a kid?
Coutinho: I started playing futsal when I was six years old, at a club very close to my home called Clube Sargento do Rocha. Then I played futsal in Mangueira and soon thereafter to Vasco Da Gama, where I played futsal until I was 13. After that, I had to stop and focus entirely on football.
Is playing futsal more fun?
Coutinho: What makes futsal so interesting to me is that the game is so fast. The Player must make a very quick decision to finish the move. Another interesting thing about futsal is the chance to change the score when you are losing, at the very last second, so the players believe right up to the last minute that they still have a chance to win.
How does futsal help you become a better soccer player?
Coutinho: I started playing futsal when I was six years old, at a club very close to my home called Clube Sargento do Rocha. Then I played futsal in Mangueira and soon thereafter to Vasco Da Gama, where I played futsal until I was 13. After that, I had to stop and focus entirely on football. Futsal helped me play a lot. I often say that I rely on all my soccer learning on futsal. Futsal helps you think fast, you have to learn to make decisions instantly in confined spaces, and it also improves your soccer skills. I love futsal and I am so grateful for all it has given me.
